Fresh off the boat from Canada, Mr. Wardle is excited to carry on the strong tradition of Science education at MAK. Our well equipped science lab allows students to gain valuable hands on experimental experience in all disciplines from Biology, to Chemistry to Physics to Earth Science. Information is presented to students in a wide spectrum of activities.
In Grade 6 we'll study Earth Science. Topics covered will include topographic maps, volcanoes and other natural threatening phenomena, energy in the earth's system, space and our solar system, weather and erosion and a biblical perspective of the Earth's origins.
As Grade 7 students are generally full of life, it's appropriate that they get to study the life they are full of. The major theme of Grade 7 science is Life Science. Major topics investigated will include the characteristics of life, cell structure and function, genetics, evolution and creation, animal classification, ecology and finally major human body systems.
In Grade 8 we study Physical Science. From whiz-bang chemical reactions to projectiles to simple machines, Grade 7 is a year of physical activity. Students will explore forces, motion, and structure of matter, density, heat and energy. This will prove to be an exciting, physical year.
As Grade 9 is the first year of High School, Biology 1 is a very intense year covering a huge amount of content. Fortunately, the content is amazingly engaging. Students learn about the structure and function of cells, evolution and creation theories, human physiology and classification systems in biology. As well, almost a whole quarter will be spent on an in depth study of genetics. Our year will culminate with an amazing trip to the aquarium and coral reefs of Kenting to study marine life.
