Language Arts
Language Arts in the MAK middle school sees students moving toward deeper thinking about the meaning and value of literature, while simultaneously developing stronger writing skills in preparation for their high school years. MAK Middle School teachers strive to instill a love of the written word, not just in stories and poems, but through song, cinema, drama, and other forms of communication that rely on words. We also work to help students develop critical thinking skills, powerful writing techniques, and positive academic interaction habits that will serve them well in their school careers.
The Language Arts curriculum at Morrison was recently revised, and our new program includes online access to the literature texts, video content, and research databases. We are constantly looking at new ways to integrate the Language Arts into different subject areas, such as History, Science, Math, Music, and the Yearbook program. We also try to help students understand and discern the power of language as it is used in mainstream media, advertising, politics, technology, and the like. It's an exciting time to be a student at Morrison, especially in the Language Arts.
