Welcome from the Principal

Dear parents, students, staff members, and friends of Morrison Academy Kaohsiung (MAK),

 

Welcome to another wonderful year of learning at MAK! 

 

First off, I would like to mention a huge “CONGRATULATIONS” to our World Scholars Cup teams who competed in the international round in Bangkok, Thailand this past summer.  This was definitely our best showing ever, as we had two teams place in the top 10 (3rd and 5th), as well as three individuals who placed in the top 10 (1st, 5th, and 9th) overall.   We are so proud of your accomplishments, and for representing MAK so magnificently at the tournament!

 

At MAK, each year we have a theme to focus on for character development and spiritual growth.  This year, the school theme will be “Being First”.  We will be looking at how the world defines “being first” very differently from how God defines it.  In God’s eyes, in order to be first, we need to put others before ourselves, and by putting them first (and ourselves last), then we will be first in God’s eyes.  The theme verse for the year will be:

 

“The last will be first, and the first will be last” 

Matthew 20:16

 

One of the things that makes MAK such an incredible school are the wonderful teachers we are blessed with.  One of the key distinctives that people comment on when they visit our school (including the WASC and ACSI accreditation teams) is how evident it is that our teachers care about their students – not just on an academic level, but also on a personal and spiritual level.  At MAK, our entire staff is committed to providing a well-balanced approach to education for students in a loving and nurturing environment.  We aim to accomplish this not only in our challenging academic courses, but also by providing opportunities to learn and experience music, sports, art, technology, and much more.  All of our teachers are certified educators in their home countries, as well as vibrant, devout Christians who care deeply about teaching and about helping children meet their God-given potential.  

 

This year, God has blessed us with six new staff members:

• Mrs. Brandt – Administrative Assistant

• Ms. Foster – Secondary Humanities

• Ms. Krause – Kindergarten

• Mrs. Lu – Public Relations Manager

• Mr. MacDonald – Grade 1

• Mr. Tam – Secondary Science
